NEISSR Kicks Off STAR Induction and Orientation Programme 2025

North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR), 7th Mile, Chümoukedima, inaugurated its STAR (Student Training and Academic Readiness) Induction and Orientation Programme 2025 for the new Master of Social Work (MSW) batch on 16th July 2025 at the NEISSR BAM Hall.

The event was graced by Dr. Fr. George Rino, Parish Priest of St. Joseph Church and Principal of St. Joseph Higher Secondary School, Chümoukedima, as the Special Guest. In his address, he inspired the students by emphasizing that the day marked the beginning of new opportunities—a time to reinvent oneself, ignite minds, and build destiny. He highlighted that education is about shaping souls and living what we learn, underscoring that success comes not merely through dreams, but through committed action. He urged students to become seekers of justice and agents of societal transformation, rather than passive job seekers, especially in the face of increasing youth unemployment in Nagaland.

In the welcome address, Rev. Fr. G.L. Khing, Vice Principal and Administrator of NEISSR, warmly received the new students, inviting them to consider NEISSR as their home. He emphasized the institute’s friendly and familial atmosphere, encouraging open communication and collaboration between students, faculty, and management. “When individuals grow, society grows,” he stated.

Mr. Jacob Khongsai, President of the Student Council of Social Change (SCSC), called on the trainees to remain rooted in justice, kindness, compassion, and understanding, and to be catalysts of change in their communities.

Ms. Elizabeth Pojar, Assistant Professor, introduced NEISSR’s vision, mission, and academic ethos, helping the new students understand the institute’s commitment to excellence in social work education.

The programme began with an invocation by Dr. Fr. Mathew Thuniampral, Governing Board Member of NEISSR, and was chaired by Ms. Nlumpeule, Assistant Professor. The event also featured musical performances by Ms. Vilhourienuo Sekhose (BSW 3rd Semester) and Ms. Sensile Magh (MSW 3rd Semester), which brought a rich cultural flavour to the gathering. The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Toli H. Kiba, Assistant Professor, followed by the benediction pronounced by Dr. Lily Sangpui, Assistant Professor.

The STAR Induction Programme marks the beginning of an exciting academic journey for the new batch of MSW students. The programme will continue till 20th July 2025, featuring interactive sessions by alumni and faculty, highlighting diverse social work settings and professional insights. These sessions aim to equip students with practical knowledge and a deep sense of purpose as they embark on their training to become socially responsible leaders and peacebuilders.
