Dear NEISSRians

I hope this message finds you all in good health and high spirits as we embark on another academic year at our esteemed institution. I would like to take this opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to social work and share the mission, vision, and core values that guide us.

Our mission is to achieve transcendental life through holistic development and the vision is to contribute to build a new social order based on human dignity and social justice; Work with a preferential option for the vulnerable and exploited, both locally and globally; and Building a cadre of young and competent professionals having a global perspective and a strong value based on compassion, personal integrity, tolerance and self-respect.

At North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISS), we are guided by our core values, which serve as the foundation of our institution and shape our actions and decisions. We believe in empathy and compassion, valuing the diverse needs and aspirations of individuals and communities. Respect and inclusion are fundamental to our culture, where we embrace the uniqueness of each individual and promote equality and diversity. We uphold the highest standards of integrity and ethical practice, ensuring transparency, honesty, and accountability in all our endeavors. Collaboration and partnerships are integral to our approach, as we recognize the power of working together with stakeholders and communities to maximize our impact. We embrace innovation and adaptability, encouraging creative approaches to address emerging social issues and evolving needs. Through these core values, we strive to create a positive and sustainable impact on the lives of individuals and communities in the North East region.

Welcome to this abode of knowledge and wisdom. I invite you to feel proud and glad to be a part of NEISSR, a unique institute that is the first of its kind in India. Our journey, from inception to reality, has been a challenging but enriching experience, made possible by the valuable cooperation of the Government of Nagaland, Nagaland Central University, well-wishers, and partner universities from abroad.

In the words of George Bernard Shaw, "You see things and say WHY? I dream of things that never were and say WHY NOT!" This quote aptly describes our journey, as we strive to prepare professional social workers not just for the nation but specifically for the North East region. Our dream of NEISSR in Nagaland has a purpose and vision, rooted in the definition of social work and its relevance to our region.

Social work is no longer just a philanthropic or charity-based activity; it is a profession that addresses issues related to human well-being systematically and scientifically. Based on human rights and social justice, social work has become the answer to the present challenges we face. We expect our students, after their professional training, to actively engage in developmental work here in Nagaland and guide the state towards a better future.

The North East region is a unique and vibrant region, rich in both human potential and material resources. As an institution dedicated to social work, we have a tremendous responsibility to harness this potential and contribute to the growth and well-being of our communities.

Our mission statement reflects these thoughts, emphasizing our commitment to building a new social order based on human dignity and social justice. We encourage every student to embrace their responsibility as social work professionals

I encourage all students, faculty, and staff to wholeheartedly embrace our mission, vision, and core values. Let us work together with dedication, passion, and a spirit of service to make a positive difference in the lives of those we serve.

I extend my warmest wishes for a successful and fulfilling academic year ahead and  we continue to inspire, empower, and transform lives through our commitment to social work. May God’s grace be with you always to “Excel in Knowledge and Service”.
