NEISSR commemorates 79th Independence Day

North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR) observed the 79th Independence Day of India on August 15, 2025, at Peace Centre, Chümoukedima. The programme was organised under the aegis of the Electoral Literacy Club, Students Council for Social Change, and the NSS Unit of NEISSR, in line with the institution’s objective of fostering civic consciousness and patriotic values among students.

Delivering the keynote address, Dr. Fr. Mathew Thuniampral, Counsellor and Member of the Governing Board, NEISSR, paid tribute to national leaders Mahatma Gandhi, Rani Lakshmibai, Subhas Chandra Bose, and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. He stated that freedom is both a legacy of sacrifices made by past generations and a responsibility for every citizen. Emphasising the role of youth in nation building, he urged the student community to uphold constitutional and democratic values, ethical integrity, social accountability, and environmental stewardship, while addressing challenges such as inequality, corruption, and ecological degradation.

The programme was chaired by Ninoka Aye (BSW 3rd Semester). The National Flag was unfurled by Dr. Fr. Mathew Thuniampral, followed by the National Anthem. Vote of thanks was proposed by Ms. Sani Koshia (MSW 3rd Semester).

In continuation of the day’s patriotic spirit and in view of the 6th National Social Work Week, the Students Council for Social Change organised an environment and health cleanliness drive within the college premises. The activity placed special emphasis on the health benefits of maintaining a clean and hygienic environment, highlighting its role in preventing diseases and promoting overall wellbeing. Through this initiative, students actively engaged in creating a healthier campus atmosphere, demonstrating how responsible citizenship also means safeguarding public health.
