In a symbolic gesture of environmental responsibility, the commission for “Care for God’s Creation”, Diocese of Kohima initiated plantation of trees at NEISSR. The commission is spearheaded by Shri. Nosazol Charles and Rev. Fr. Chacko Karinthayil. The initiative is an outcome of Pope Francis Encyclical, “Laudato si” which emphasised on the care for God’s creation. The Encyclical calls for global responds to protect the Mother Earth.
The event highlighted the urgent need to protect and preserve the environment, encouraging the adoption of eco-friendly habits and the reduction of plastic usage. Sharing practical implementation, Shri. Nosazol Charles recalled the 5th Regional Youth Convention 2025 held at Kohima, where participants embraced a plastic-free zone using plant leaves to serve food and avoiding plastic bottles. He warned that continued irresponsible human actions are causing severe damage to the environment. He further urged everyone to take positive action to preserve and promote the love for God’s creation. Rev. Fr. Chacko Karinthayil shared the spiritual and ecological significance of the initiative.
Earlier, the program began with an interaction session chaired by Rev. Fr. G. L. Khing, Vice Principal, NEISSR, who welcomed the gathering and introduced the purpose of the event. NEISSR students and Peace Channel members attended the program and planted trees as part of the event.
The program concluded with a prayer led by Rev. Fr. George Rino, Parish Priest, St. Joseph Parish, Chümoukedima. The activity symbolized a collective commitment to safeguarding God’s creation and promoting sustainable living.
